One of the most common questions our Customer Service team receives every day is “how much does an alcohol interlock cost”. Now this seems like it would have a simple answer, but it can depend on your state, type of vehicle and how long you need to have it installed. Let’s try and break it down for you:
There are three major costs you need to consider when installing an alcohol interlock:
It can take one of our qualified technicians anywhere between 4 to 8 hours to install an alcohol interlock. Install times are dependent on your type of vehicle and the complexity of the engine bay wiring. Different types of installations include:
Standard interlock installation
Generally, this includes vehicles that were made before 2015 year and are started using an ignition key.
Includes newer cars with push button start and more complex wiring on engine bay or vehicle control modules.
Hybrid and Stop / Start vehicles generally are assessed as non-standard and may require an additional module on top of the non-standard installation labour cost.
Electric vehicles are more complex and are considered non-standard and may require an additional module on top of the non-standard installation labour cost.
Heavy vehicles and motorcycle installations are generally more complex than a standard installation. This is due to the way an Interlock is required to be mounted / secured under the dash on a Heavy Vehicles and on motorcycle tanks. Installation on Heavy vehicles and motorcycles is considered non-standard.
*Agents may also charge a workshop hourly rate in addition to the standard installation fee to cover any additional time required to perform non-standard installations.
We recommend you discuss the cost associated with an interlock installation into your individual vehicle with your service centre when bookingto ensure no misunderstandings.
The interlock needs to be calibrated regularly with most Mandatory State Programs requiring a monthly visit to a service centre. In NSW and QLD participants may be allowed to have the interlock device calibrated on a bi-monthly or tri-monthly schedule.
You can calibrate your device at any of our 130+ service centres nationally, but it’s important to keep these appointments to ensure you don’t experience any service interruptions as well as potential violations and fees.
When you have received advice from your Road Transport Authority that you have successfully completed your program you can book into any of our 130+ service centres nationally to have the interlock removed.
Removals generally take around up to 2 hours.
